  • The Value Of Money – Sovereignty In The Ancient Era (Brian Colwell) The purpose of this series is to examine inflation and financial sovereignty against poor monetary policy, without hitting one over the head with club-like analysis. Today, we examine why ancient-era coins had value and the purchasing power of an Aegean silver stater (c.500 BCE) at the time of mint.

  • Apple Announces New ‘Sign in With Apple’ Privacy Feature (Mark Gurman, Bloomberg) The feature lets users provide select information, like name and email address, that is guarded by the company’s Face ID 3-D login system on iPhones and iPads

  • Google faces privacy complaints in European countries (Foo Yun Chee, Reuters) For owning a system broadcasting the personal data of users to hundreds or thousands of companies, which breaches the EU’s data protection regulation (GDPR)

  • Russia’s largest internet company, Yandex NV, pushed back against government demands to turn over encryption keys that would allow the security services to monitor users’ private data (Ilya Khrennikov, Bloomberg)

  • Palantir Dropped by Berkeley Privacy Conference After Complaints of Passing Information to Government Agencies (Lizette Chapman, Bloomberg) An influential digital privacy group affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley, said it severed financial ties with Palantir Technologies Inc. (a data mining company which sponsored the privacy law Scholars conference)

  • Buffy wicks, a California Legislator Battles Big Tech Over New Privacy Laws (Joshua Brustein, Bloomberg). Last summer a California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) was passed, which gives residents the right to know how their data is being collected and shared and allows them to deny companies the right to sell it. Buffy Wicks, has opposed industry-backed legislation and introduced her own bill to make the CCPA more restrictive. Separately, she promoted new rules to govern Amazon.com Inc.’s relationship with companies that sell their products on its platform. Working hard to fight industry backed (Silicon Valley) legislation
