Beam News!
A wild week for the crypto space, with many negatively effected by the FTX situation. Firstly, we just want to wish everyone well, and that hope that the Beam community has come out unscathed. Although a horrible situation, it does point out the dire need for better decentralised solutions for all those in crypto. The time is ripe for Beam to build out the Decentralised Applications to extend ones privacy preserving financial sovereignty.
There has been some great discussion in the Beam community, and a lot to cover this week. Let’s go!
Beam Feature Requests
Since launch the Beam Feature Requests have been popping in the forum, with many a great idea coming through from the community. Let us dive in and check some of them out!
Migrate Community to Matrix
Although not necessarily a Feature Request this one is of course very relevant for all readers of this here fine newsletter, and all those in the Beam community. The idea is to move the Beam community from Telegram and Discord to that of Matrix. For those unfamiliar Matrix is an open network for secure, decentralized communication, and the reason for the suggested shift is that of privacy. Something that is of course the heart of the Beam community. Thanks Eumaios for bringing the suggestion. As with all of the Beam Feature Requests, please jump into the forum and let us know your thoughts.
Beam NFT Gallery Feature Request
This come by way of the Beam Bots crew and is requesting addition artist tools to be added to the Beam NFT gallery Dapp. They suggest the addition of two tools:
A way to verify users NFT holdings
A way to airdrop NFT holders
As we have seen with NFTs far and wide, they often have airdrops whether additional NFTs or tokens. These are great ways for NFT creators to engage with their community, bootstrap DAO distribution, and simply thank those that support them.
“Programmable money” ERC20-like tokens
This feature request is to do with the programmability of Confidential Assets, and request to bring more their way. For those familiar with ERC-20 contracts on Ethereum there is a lot that can be done in a programmable manner with them, namely due to their nature as contracts. This was discussed in the most recent Beam Space (check below for the link!), and Romanov details how this can be done on Beam, and what it would look like. Shout out to Beam Assets for bringing it up for discussion. It is definitely an interesting request, and programmability is something that Beam has been extending in a privacy preserving manner, why not ramp it up a notch!
Mobile wallet, separate out the payment functions from the DeFi functions
This feature request is certainly worth discussion, so thanks Vanilla Ice Beam for bringing it to the communities attention. The idea is to have a standalone app on mobile that is solely focused on payments. The idea being that payments is the bread and butter of any economy, and that users are often overwhelmed by the complexities within DeFi. Jump in and share your thoughts!
All in all there are some great Feature Requests coming through on the forum, these are but a few. We implore you to head on over to the forum and add your own and give feedback on others. And on this note, there is no feedback too simple. Even a “great idea” is greatly appreciated and gives the rest of the community better insights into what the community is feeling.
Disclosures
A general reminder that if you ever come across a potential vulnerability it is always best practice to approach the team in order to get a gauge on its relevancy and severity. This can help avoid any vulnerabilities being unnecessarily acted upon by bad actors, and allows issues to be resolved and fixes to be pushed.

A big shoutout to the Beam Bots team for continuously contributing to the Beam community, through awareness efforts, helping users with guides, and of course their kick ass Beam Bot NFTs! Whether a Beam Bot holder or not, as a Beamer they are bringing you value so I encourage you to show them some love and support!
