With the Beam 6.0 release on the horizon, a great time to take a look at some of the key features that will come with it, and what that means for Beam. The 6.0 release will bring with it a network upgrade, thus needing a Hardfork. The date for the fork has not yet been decided, but will be announced soon, and of course have a buffer for users, mining pools, and exchanges, to update their wallets ready for the fork.

Fierce Fermion 6.0

Smart Contracts
Yes!! With the next release Smart Contracts, or rather Beam Shaders, will be live on mainnet. This will enable the added functionality to build out various DeFi protocols on top of Beam, with the privacy we all know and love. You can check out the current Beam Shaders being worked on under the DeFi branch in GitHub, and check out the intro on the Beam Wiki if you haven’t already.

Confidential Asset Support
Coming to the GUI will be support for CAs. This will enable easy sending, receiving, and initial trade capabilities. The fundamental building blocks for a fully fledged private DEX!

Revamped Send and Receive Screens
UX, UX, UX! A huge focus for the coming release is that of UX. The send and receive screens are being reworked, to enable an ease of use unparalleled in the space. This will simplify the onboarding process for new Beamers to get amongst.

DApp Store
An in wallet DApp Store is coming to Beam wallets! This will provide an easy route for putting your Beam and CAs to work, and utilising the added functionality coming with 6.0. The DApp Store will bring with it the first decentralised Beam Faucet, running on the Shaders.
