Beam News
Another week behind us, with an even bigger one incoming. The Eager Electron 5.2 for mobile is around the corner, bringing with it mobile nodes. So too, is the EE 5.3 release for desktop, introducing ETH, and Erc20 (USDT, WBTC, DAI) tokens to the Atomic Swaps lineup. Just the tip of the iceberg of what is to come for Beam, so let us dive in, and check out a tad more of what is on the cards.
Beam Sidechains
Confidential Sidechains is the ability to simultaneously run several Beam chains and seamlessly move value from one chain to another without the loss of privacy. We have come up with this idea during the development of decentralized bridges with Ethereum and Polkadot in order to test various scenarios that can occur during bridge operation. As we have started building smart contracts that can validate the state of each chain, we saw that they can be used to create Confidential Sidechains by just connecting several different Beam chains with different parameters.
Sounds cool, but why would anyone want to do that?
Imagine running a fast Beam chain with a different consensus, say GhostDAG or POS, and being able to instanly move any value there from inside the wallet, trade and then move it back. Or use sidechains to softly launch new and experimental features without the need for painful hardforks. This could create an experience similar to the Polkadot parachains, only fully private and integrated with all existing Beam services.
You can follow the progress on GitHub, and stay tuned for an upcoming demo of Beam Sidechains on BeamX, and be sure to get your BeamX wallets ready for the occasion.
Roadmap For 2021
This coming Sunday we will have a community call to discuss the Roadmap beyond what has previously been published. A lot to take in as we progress forward, with the extensibility that comes with the BeamX release, and the changing regulatory and crypto landscapes. With this, we welcome all of the community to join us to discuss the path forward.
Date: 26/01/21
Time: 17:00 GMT
Location: TBA (Follow Beam Twitter for the official announcement)
We look forward to seeing you there, and getting down to the nitty gritty of the 2021 Beam Roadmap!
