Let’s go!
Hard Fork!
Reminder that the Beam blockchain will have a Hard Fork at…
Block 1,920,000
This equates to around the end of August, and as such the next wallet version to support the Hard Fork will be released today or tomorrow. Users will need to update to the new releases for their wallets to function post fork.
Stay tuned for the wallet releases, and prepare for the upgrade!
The Hard Fork will bring with it:
A change to the confidential asset creation price, with the new cost being 10 BEAM
Improved DApp support in the wallets for the BANS application
Addition of Shader capabilities to verify fork heights (to support fork-dependent features)
Research and Development
Beam continues to add to the ecosystem and improve the ease at which outside developers can build with and on Beam. This is especially relevant as the DeFi ecosystem is set to go full force in the coming months. One such endeavour is support for Beam Smart Contract Shader Vault in Rust.
The Beam Virtual Machine (BVM) runs code compiled to WASM. To do such a tool chain is needed to convert from a language like C++. This is currently how the contracts for the BeamX DAO, Staking campaign, and NFT marketplace have been created with primary support for C++ having been well established. Now is the time to extend this to other languages.
In an effort to increase the developer base for building on Beam and utilising smart contracts a Rust Tool chain is being worked on. This will allow Rust developers to build Beam DApps without the need to learn a completely new language. Rust is already used by a number of prominent blockchains including Solana, and is an exciting addition to the Beam capabilities.
