Beam News
A big week for Beam with the BANS DApp gearing up for launch in a little shy of 24 hours, with plenty more applications both financial and social to follow. The week was a rather interesting one for the privacy space with the events unfolding around Tornado Cash, and the rippling effects throughout DeFi and the Open Source development space.
Let’s dive in!
BANS!
The BANS - Beam Anonymous Name Service - DApp is set to go live!
This brings with it the first opportunity to solidify your private on-chain Web3 identity in an easily readable address format.
The launch is set for block 1,896,111, which is expected to take place at roughly 6:30 PM GMT.
The Beam team will be hosting a space on the Beam Twitter account to talk BANS and all things privacy and Web3. The space will begin 20 minutes before launch so tune in to the Beam Twitter to join us.

Hard Fork!
Reminder that the Beam blockchain will have a Hard Fork at…
Block 1,920,000
This equates to around the start of September. The latest fork compatible release is here for desktop, so if you haven’t already, update your wallets to get ready for the upgrade!
Stay tuned for the mobile wallet releases!
The Hard Fork will bring with it:
A change to the confidential asset creation price, with the new cost being 10 BEAM
Improved DApp support in the wallets for the BANS application
Addition of Shader capabilities to verify fork heights (to support fork-dependent features)
Beam Space
The last Beam Space we took a look into the recent events surrounding Tornado Cash and the attack by regulators on privacy, along with the further effects in DeFi and on the Github platform. A very interesting space that looked at issues faced, and what is on the horizon for both potential issues, and solutions available and coming.
One such solution is that of SOURC3, a Web3-native, decentralized platform for software development building to benefit the developer community. We had the pleasure of the SOURC3 team joining us to discuss the recent events and how SOURC3 aims to solve the issues faced for builders when it comes to development software.
