Beam News!
A happy holidays to all the Beamers throughout the world. The year is almost over, and we thank you for your support, and wish you a happy holiday. We are excited for the year to come, and all that is on the horizon for Beam.
Let us dive in for the latest updates!
HW Wallet Update
Work continues on the hardware wallet integration, and a small issue was encountered with the Ledger nano s device. The code was successfully integrated but the process of creating an UTXO (due calculation of part of the bulletproof) was extremely slow, taking about 100 seconds. This is despite the sophisticated algorithm and optimisations made, with the root cause coming from the low RAM and weak CPU of the Ledger nano s.
Despite all this a few good insights came to light. The first is that of the native API. Using this to create the UTXOs, the processing time can be reduced to around 40 seconds using a more primitive algorithm.
Another great revelation came with the Ledger nano s plus. For such a device, the UTXO can be created in around 1.5 seconds. This is a great breakthrough, and for the obvious UX benefits, initial Hardware Wallet support looks to be coming in the form of Ledger nano s plus.
A big shout out to Valdo for his continued efforts on this front!
Development
Work on the infrastructure & research for the Beam Anonymous Messenger Dapp has kicked off. A review of the initial thoughts and findings will be shared in the near future, along with some intended initial specs.
The Roadmap update is in the works and expected to be published in the new year. Given the Beam Feature Request initiative, the Roadmap updates will likely take new shape, and be better aligned with the community at large.
The situation with the checkmarks is being investigated. As was discussed these all should be removed now, leaving only BeamX with a verification tick. There were a few small issues that may still need resolving, and if so, will be pushed with the next release.
Beam Space
The last Beam Space we covered the recently proposed AML bill in the US, along with a look at decentralised social media. Something that is only becoming more relevant with the current social media going ons.

The next Beam Space we will focus on all things Beam. There are some great things coming in the new year, so be sure to join us and get the inside scoop.
See you there!
A reminder that all Beam spaces are uploaded to Youtube for your listening pleasures! ❤️
One of Mimblewimble's breakthroughs is the use of side chain protocols to conceal or accelerate Bitcoin transactions, although I'm not a fan. The issue with this adoption is that neither technology provides anything more advantageous than dApps on Ethereum or EOS. Beam and GRIN appear to lay more value on being completely imperceptible to tracking, hence their usefulness is constrained to this area.
Unless you locate a https://www.merkeleon.com/blog/best-crypto-exchanges-2023/ with a fiat trading pair that enables you to clean those transactions for you and deposit this into a bank account, I fail to see the attractiveness of them.
